Cacao Ceremony Facilitation

Cacao has been used medicinally and ceremonially for thousands of years in the Americas as a “heart-opening” medicine. Only recently has Western science caught up, discovering that the flavonoids in cacao help lower blood pressure, improve blood flow to the brain and heart, and aid in preventing blood clots.

Jonathan’s journey with Mother Cacao began in Peru, where he worked with an NGO to travel deep into the mountainous jungle regions to support and educate small-holder cacao farmers on biodynamic and regenerative growing practices for more resilient trees and better harvests, organically without agro-chemicals.

He went on to complete his Cacao Facilitator training in Talamanca, Costa Rica, and has traveled to bean-to-bar cacao producers in Nicaragua and Hawaii.

Cacao-Breathwork Ceremony

Theobroma cacao is a powerful plant medicine, containing over 400 metabolites that act within our bodies. The most prominent alkaloid, theobromine, is a somatic stimulant and vasodilator, sending blood out into the capillaries of the extremities. A separate alkaloid draws this blood back to the heart. Still other alkaloids, terpenoids, and plant sterols go to work, releasing endogenous dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and anandamine – a neurotransmitter known as the “bliss molecule.”

Thousands of years before science discovered these phytochemicals, the Mayans and Aztecs were already using Theobroma Cacao as a heart-opening medicine, a sacrament in ceremony, as well as a nutrient-dense staple in their diets.

A ceremonial dose is 42 grams, and the medicine takes about 20 minutes to take effect in the body, which is an ideal time to begin a session of holotropic, Somatic Release Breathwork™.

This style of breathing changes our biochemistry, allowing the top-down mind-body executive control pathways to soften, and the innate healing intelligence of the body to go to work. Carefully timed breath holds stimulate the release of endogenous DMT from the pineal gland, imbuing deep insights and clarity, and often, a glimpse of one’s soul purpose.

Cacao-Breathwork Ceremonies have been my most powerful to date:

Huge heart-opening breakthroughs, emotional releases, self-limiting pattern interrupts, life-altering insights – are possible and common.
